We had breakfast with our amazing tour guides, Katrina and Wolfgang. After breakfast we headed to the Berlin Tempelhof airport. We were told at the airport that our checked luggage could be only 20 kg. That meant that many of us had to repack our belongings either into someone else’s bag or into our carry-on luggage. I had to lighten my luggage by 5 kg. So, I packed my back-pack full. William was kind enough to offer me a place in his bag for my shoes.
After checking our luggage and saying farewell to our guides, we were ready to go through security. Now we learned that Easy Jet only allowed one carry-on item, not a carry-on item and a personal item like airlines in North America. Many people now had to pack their purses into their carry-on bag. Apparently a camera and a carry-on is ok.
The flight to Bassil only took an hour. Now we were picking up our bags when it became evident that one of our group member’s bag was not there. William’s bag could not be located. It took some time for Dan and William fill out the necessary paper work for a missing bag. In the meantime, our new guide, Astrid, was on the other side of security wondering if we missed the flight or if something else went wrong.
After the necessary arrangements were made regarding William’s bag, which, as you may recall held my shoes, we boarded the bus and headed through France to Freiburg. We checked into the InterCity Hotel and met our second guide Ayla. We were given a couple of hours of free time to unpack and take a look around the city and then went for supper to a small restaurant in the centre of Freiburg.
