Saturday, July 11

I got up early and went for a walk down to the National Memorial, and then to the White House. I was impressed with the elaborate buildings that lined Pennsylvania Avenue. The Capitol area is very impressive. Along the walk, I saw a number of familiar faces!

It was impressive to see the way Canada can contribute to this nation’s capital!

I returned back to the hotel around 8:30, showered, changed and had breakfast with Sue. We checked out of the hotel and headed to the Goethe Institut building for our morning session. We learned about the German Schule system and how students are streamed at the age of 10, after Grade 4. We also learned some key German terminology.

After a quick lunch, we then boarded a bus and headed to Washington Dulles Airport where we quickly passed through security and then waited for almost 2 hours for our boarding time.

We boarded a huge 757 jet and departed Washington D.C. at 6:00 p.m. We cruised at 39000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean at approximately 600 mph.

The ride was not the most comfortable ride I have ever had. The first couple hours were quite rough and the seats were very close together, making sleeping very uncomfortable. I did get a couple hours of sleep which did help.
