Roughly 120 years ago my great-grandfather Julius Scharfenberg, a brick-maker/farmer of Northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein) married my great grandma Elizabeth (a Dane) hurriedly and made the move to Wisconsin, USA. (His parents Christian and Anna also came to America and are pictured above).
Historians in S-H Province write that the Scharfenberg (Scharnberg, Sharffenberg)family inhabited the area and in particular a castle in Linau from 1200 and on after a nobleman arrived from the Rhine bearing the name. He was thought to be of the Padberg dynasty.
I am looking forward to catching glimpses of what our family's history might have been had they stayed throughout Prussia's movement toward becoming modern Germany.

The blue/white/green shield to the left is one my son Riley carved after researching heraldry. The other image is of the Scharfenberg coat of arms back in the 1400's. Riley used the chequered broad arrow in his as well.
